Today, Tom Lopes finished the tanking and then there was all of the paperwork that comes with the special permit for the tanking installation and the 20% over-gross approval. Late in the afternoon, everything is signed off and now we are on our way for the required test flight and systems check including a HF radio test. after 1 hour, we returned to MCE for the final signatures.
We departed MCE late in the day for the 1 hour flight to SMX, Santa Maria, California, which was home to N696CM when it was owned by Terry Cunningham. Tomorrow we depart for Hilo, pushing the forecasted 20-30 knot headwind. (photo left: N696CM in Merced, CA; photo right: N696CM in Santa Maria, CA)
